DM Beta sem2 Assignment--Typexpression
Wednesday, January 7, 2009
This is my digital media beta year sem2 assignment.
-Individual Assignment
-Students are required to do research on a contemporary typographer or type designer and write a report.
-Based on the report, student are required to design and express thier understanding on the designers in an A2 size Poster.
The font i choose is Verdana by Matthew Carter.
After search,i know that this font is design for screen.
Verdana does everything right on screen; it has a large x-height so characters look bigger, yet not so big that it's hard to tell the lowercase from the uppercase or that it looks crowded in apps such as web browsers that don't have adjustable leading (yet).
Verdana is extended, but more importantly, it has extra space between characters so they don't touch. The bolds are quite bold, ensuring that you can always tell the difference between bold and roman, yet the bold characters never fill-in, even at small sizes (you can still read it at 4 point, at least under Windows).
But i feel hard to show out the point "design for screen" on A2 paper, finally i decided to set the font size small and arrange the words neat to show that it's clear to see even it's small. And i play with a hidden "V" of Verdana to show the same point also, it's clear to see! You can see the "V" although i didn't type it out.
